Dr. Udall was raised in Houston, Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the United States Military Academy, West Point. After serving in the U.S. Army for five years as an Air Defense Artillery Officer, he attended medical school at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. Dr Udall then completed a residency in Family Medicine at The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler.

Dr. Udall has spent most of his career working in family and emergency medicine in small rural hospitals. He enjoys hiking and outdoor adventures with his wife and children. Dr. Udall is a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. He enjoys serving as a scouting volunteer, and is himself an Eagle Scout.
